At Possum Ltd, we are passionate about creating technology that transforms lives. For over six decades we’ve been at the forefront of assistive technology solutions, helping individuals with disabilities and the elderly live more independently and with greater dignity.
OUR STORY
Possum Ltd was founded in 1961 by visionary engineer Reginald Maling, who developed
the Patient Operated Selector Mechanism (POSM) to assist a paralysed patient at Stoke Mandeville Hospital. This groundbreaking invention allowed the patient to control devices using a simple suck or blow mouthpiece.
Over the years, we’ve continued to innovate with environmental controllers like the Qwayo 2, Freeway and Primo Pro controllers.
From this innovation came our name—Possum, derived from the Latin word “possum”, meaning “I can.” It’s a name that reflects our mission: Enabling ability through technology.
Having the Qwayo 2 gives me a sense of achievement, and that I can do things for myself. Possum have allowed me to reclaim my independence, not having to ask people to help me change the T.V. channel or adjust my bed or chair.
